APW - Illinois, Bunn Special with rare fishscale damascene, 23J, 16S, gold-filled OF original case with idyllic country home scene to rear, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel, fishscale pattern nickel damascene, s#2593581. The fishscale pattern damascene is quite rare among the 23 jewel Bunn Special grade; the total production of this open face version is only approximately 320 made.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, perimeter of larger winding wheel with fine scratch striations caused by a past sanding to remove oxide and original finish of this winding wheel perimeter is lost, bright lustrous plates with some typical mild fine to micro-fine scratches, some small peck marks to balance cock perimeter, some oxide spots to areas of steelwork; dial is not of correct style to this watch and appropriate instead to a somewhat later non-railroad grade mvt, dial with some fine scratches; fine hands, oxide and mild bend to tip of minute; case shows light wear, profuse small nicks to band, engraving detail with mild overall reduction, inner lip of case rear where mvt seats has a few mars but we do not interpret these as having been caused by another mvt; tight bow, crown shows medium wear; glass crystal with large internal edge chip at upper-right.
